The Rat (1937) follows the thrilling escapades of Jean Boucheron, a notorious cat burglar who has captured the hearts of the ladies of Montmartre. His charm and daring antics also attract the attention of Zelia de Chaumont, a wealthy socialite who takes it upon herself to "redeem" him. However, Jean's life becomes even more complicated when his beautiful young ward, Odile, enters the picture. As the story unfolds, it takes a dark turn with the introduction of murder and a dramatic courtroom confrontation.
