Un giorno da leoni (1961) unfolds on September 8, 1943, in Rome, a pivotal moment marked by the armistice that altered many lives. Danilo evades fascist conscription, while Michele manages to leave his administrative post and depart from Rome. On their journey back to the city, they encounter Gino, and together, they attempt to traverse the Gothic Line, which divides Nazi-occupied Italy from Allied-liberated Italy. Intercepted by German forces, they seek refuge in an abandoned cellar filled with Italian soldiers evading capture. Joined by Italian partisans Edoardo and Orlando, their mission becomes to sabotage a crucial bridge. However, Edoardo is captured and sentenced to death. Despite this setback, the trio, along with Orlando, proceed with the plan. Their success comes at the cost of Danilo's sacrifice, and the Germans mistakenly attribute the operation to American paratroopers, overlooking the valor of these four ordinary Italian citizens.
