Intimates (1997) follows the journey of Foon, who evades a prearranged marriage by taking on the role of a Ji Sor. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she becomes pregnant after a romantic entanglement with Shing. A botched abortion attempt leaves Foon on the brink of death. It is Wan, a young silk factory proprietor, who comes to her rescue. As Wan and Foon's paths intertwine, their shared experiences mirror the challenges and triumphs of women navigating the societal norms of the 1940s.
