Five Branded Women (1960) follows the harrowing journey of five women from a Yugoslavian village who are publicly shamed and have their hair cut short by partisans. The women are suspected of collaborating with the occupying Nazis. Among them, four have indeed engaged with a single, arrogant sergeant, who is swiftly castrated by the partisans. As the Nazis sheepishly escort the women out of the village, the disheartened group encounters a rugged band of mountain guerrillas. This encounter leads to both patriotic and romantic entanglements, as the women join forces with the guerrillas.
