Chez Maupassant: La parure (TV)

A young wife (Cécile de France), married to a humble clerk (Thomas Chabrol), and painfully aware of the poverty of her situation, is thrown into a panic when the couple are invited to a society ball. She persuades her husband to buy her a new dress, and borrows a jewelled necklace from a wealthy friend. But when they get home from the ball the necklace is gone. What could have happened to it? From a story by Maupassant, directed with characteristic wit and insight by Claude Chabrol, and with an exquisite twist in the tail.
