Summer Solstice (2005) picks up three years after the events of its predecessor, shifting the narrative to the vibrant summer season in the picturesque Scottish Highlands. Sam and Carrie's entrepreneurial ventures face significant challenges. The luxurious Rhives Castle Hotel is grappling with low occupancy, and their local newspaper, The Langmore and Highland Gazette, finds itself in hot water after publishing a potentially defamatory article about renowned author Alexia White. Adding to the mix, Carrie has some unexpected news for Sam. Meanwhile, Elfrida lands a small role in a popular soap opera, which will require her to spend more time away from her cherished Oscar. In a positive turn, Lucinda, the Countess of Rhives, is relishing her newfound freedom, now that she is no longer burdened with the responsibilities of managing the castle.
