The Red Line (1959)

The Red Line (1959) unfolds in the year 1906, focusing on a destitute farmer residing in the remote forests of Finland, which was then under Russian rule. The farmer's primary concern is providing for his wife and their four children. He learns about a new legislation that promises equal voting rights for all citizens, regardless of their wealth, gender, or social status. Inspired by this prospect, he attends a Socialist gathering and becomes convinced that his life will improve after the forthcoming election. However, post-election, his circumstances deteriorate, leading him and his wife to question their choices. They begin to attribute their misfortunes to divine retribution for supporting the Socialists.
