Once Upon a Time (2008) is set in 1940s Seoul, during the period of Japanese occupation. The narrative revolves around a legendary gem known as the "Light of the East," which is believed to embody the national spirit. The Japanese military, determined to seize this precious stone, eventually succeeds in obtaining it from Seok-Gul-Am. A grand celebration is held to commemorate the acquisition, with plans to transport the diamond to Japan. Amidst this backdrop, a group of Seoul's top con artists, led by Bong-gu, devise a scheme to alter the course of Korean history. Bong-gu enlists the help of Choon-ja, a renowned jazz singer and skilled thief known by the alias "HaeDangHwa," to infiltrate the party and steal the diamond. Both Bong-gu and Choon-ja have their own strategies for the heist, setting the stage for a thrilling and intricate plot.
