Danny
2015 · Documentary · 123 min. · Canada
This feature film chronicles the personal life and political career of Danny Williams, the 9th premier of history of Newfoundland and Labrador. Newfoundland and Labrador joined Canada as the 10th province in 1949. Although it was rich in natural resources (oil, hydroelectric power, fisheries), Newfoundland and Labrador was historically known as a "have-not" province until Danny Williams took office in 2003 and began demanding that the province get its fair share of royalties from natural-resource projects. Danny Williams, a successful businessman and lawyer, skillfully negotiated deals with Prime Ministers and Oil Companies alike that gave the people of Newfoundland and Labrador a greater stake in the equity and profits of its natural resources. Danny Williams, famous for his mantra "no more giveaways", became a widely popular premier and is credited with turning Newfoundland and Labrador into a "have" province and restoring widespread pride in the province.
