The Girl King (2015) follows the intricate journey of a young woman grappling with conflicting forces—between logic and emotion, her feminine identity and upbringing as a prince, and the clash between ancient customs and modern thinking. Kristina of Sweden, who ascended to the throne at just six years old, navigates a complex web of power and tradition. Surrounded by a stern, Lutheran court, she faces immense pressure to marry and secure an heir. She finds solace and affection with her lady-in-waiting, the graceful and refined Countess Ebba Sparre. However, Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna pushes for a union between Kristina and his son, Johan. As the court begins to see Ebba as a means to control the Queen, they fail to recognize Kristina's intellectual prowess and her relentless pursuit of freedom.
