The Under-Gifted (1980) follows the escapades of Baptiste 'Bebel' Lavalle and his peers at the prestigious Louis XIV private high school in Versailles. Known for their laid-back attitude, the students intentionally flunk their exams, setting a national record with zero graduates. When the school's lenient headmaster Léon Jumaucourt's wife, Lucie, takes over, she is determined to turn their academic fortunes around. Despite Bebel's clever pranks and Lucie's harsh tactics, the students' antics extend beyond the school, causing public disruptions and even involving the local police commissioner. A mix-up between a fake bomb alert and a real terrorist threat at an African embassy leads to a court order: the students must pass their exams or face jail time. The commissioner, tasked with overseeing their education, is relentless in his pursuit of their academic success.
