Out of Step (2002) follows the journey of Jenny Thomas, a young woman blessed with an innate talent for dance, who yearns to make a name for herself in the professional dance world. Despite her mother's objections, and with her father's encouragement, Jenny leaves her tight-knit Mormon community in Utah to chase her aspirations. However, her new life in the city brings unexpected challenges, including financial struggles and a spiritual crisis. Jenny forms a bond with Paul Taylor, a clever Mormon film student who sees her journey as the perfect subject for his next project. As Jenny navigates her new surroundings, she finds herself drawn to David Schrader, a captivating and enigmatic musician from New York. Their relationship complicates Jenny's religious beliefs and her new lifestyle, while Paul's romantic feelings for her add further complexity. With her scholarship and dreams hanging in the balance, Jenny embarks on an emotional journey to reconcile her faith, her ambitions, and her romantic entanglements.
