Search and Destroy

Dunne heads a cast of Hollywood's coolest in this self-consciously hip adaptation of the Broadway play about a Florida film producer, at odds with the IRS, who tries to orchestrate a movie deal based on the writings of an eccentric new-age guru (Hopper), the financing of a commodities/cocaine dealer (Walken) and the underworld contacts of a speed-freak yuppie (Turturro). Possessed by moments of articulate insights, painter-turned-artist Salle's work is not altogether successful, relying too much on the gratuitously weird nature of the characters and situations to sustain it; rather than allowing his marvelous ensemble to breathe life into it.
