Flashback (2020) follows Fred (O'Brien), an ordinary man nearing 30, grappling with an existential crisis as he stands on the brink of full-blown adulthood. Unlike detectives, secret agents, or philosophers, Fred is just a regular guy trying to navigate life's big questions. He wonders if he should settle down with his long-term girlfriend, take a corporate job to secure his finances and abandon his artistic aspirations, or choose between Sea Foam Blue and Burnt Umber for his new condo's walls. After an unexpected reunion with someone from his past, Fred embarks on a literal and metaphorical journey through his history. He gradually uncovers a hidden mystery involving a missing girl, a drug known as Mercury, and a chilling creature that has resurfaced in his adult life. As past, present, and future converge and mirror each other, Fred explores the various paths his life could take. The ultimate decision is his to make.
