O 5º Poder (1962) is a thriller that revolves around a foreign nation's plot to orchestrate a "coup" in Brazil. The conspirators employ an innovative method of subliminal messaging, which is transmitted through radio and television signals. The population quickly becomes disoriented, leading the country into a state of complete disorder. Only a select few individuals who avoid television and radio are unaffected by the subliminal messages. These immune individuals must then take on the daunting task of thwarting the plot, despite their lack of understanding about the true nature of the threat they face.
