Nobody's Perfect (1968) is a military service comedy that follows the chaotic journey of the U.S.S. Bustard while stationed in Japan. The crew finds themselves in hot water after they pilfer a Buddha statue from a local village, an act that could severely jeopardize the delicate Japanese/American relations. Doc Willoughby, the ship's petty officer, is a central figure whose escapades frequently land him in hot water with his captain. During a shore leave, Willoughby becomes smitten with a seemingly modest Japanese woman working in a kimono shop, only to discover she is actually a Japanese/American nurse in the U.S. Navy, Lt. Tomiko Momoyama. Complicating matters further, Tomiko was betrothed as a child to a traditional Japanese man named Toshi, who is determined to uphold this ancient custom. Willoughby's efforts are split between returning the Buddha statue to its rightful place in the Japanese village and attempting to win Tomiko's heart away from the traditional Japanese man she was promised to.
