Casshern (2004) is set in a grim future at the close of the 21st century, where the world, now known as Eurasia, lies in ruins following a catastrophic war against Europe. The aftermath of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons has left the planet in a state of environmental devastation. In this bleak landscape, Dr. Azuma (Akira Terao), a brilliant geneticist, develops a groundbreaking technique called "neo-cell," which has the power to regenerate human bodies. This innovation is backed by a malevolent corporation. Dr. Azuma's son, Tetsuya Azuma (Yusuke Iseya), perishes in the war, but a laboratory mishap leads to his resurrection as the formidable warrior Casshern. Concurrently, a new breed of mutants, dubbed "neo-humans," emerges from the plant life. These neo-humans harbor a sinister plan to eradicate humanity and establish a new world order.
