Yokel Boy (1942) follows the story of Joe Ruddy, a devoted movie enthusiast who is transported to Hollywood as part of a promotional scheme. Placed in charge of a production company as a joke, Joe unwittingly brings in notorious gangster "Buggsy" Malone to portray himself in a biopic. Despite his reformed lifestyle, "Buggsy" retains some of his old ways, taking control of the film and eventually the entire studio. His sister, Molly, joins him and develops romantic feelings for Joe. Meanwhile, the studio head, R. B. Harris, grows disillusioned with the publicity stunt.
