Max Vexler (Rade Serbedzija) is a Russian-Jewish immigrant who is too proud to reveal he's been fired from his position as a clarinetist for the Torrance Symphony. His life takes a surprising turn for the better when two local car thieves (Shane West, Faison) choose his home for their hideout. Sobieski plays a daughter who wants out of her home and falls for West.
