Flood Tide (1958) begins with a grim discovery on the shore: a lifeless body. This event sets off a chain reaction that culminates in the murder conviction of Bill Holleran, who vehemently maintains his innocence. The pivotal testimony comes from a young boy, David Gordon, who is just 10 years old. The narrative then shifts to a series of flashbacks, where Steve Martin, Holleran's landlord, reflects on his past relationship with David's widowed mother, Anne. Their bond was severed due to the boy's intense and vengeful jealousy. As the stakes escalate with a man's life hanging in the balance, Steve reluctantly steps back into the Gordons' lives to uncover the truth. The central question remains: is David a malevolent force or simply a misunderstood child?
