Papà
1915 · Movie · 30 min. · Italy
The film features Pina Menichelli in an unusual role, a young and lively beauty from the countryside. Two great Italian actors vie for her affection: Ruggero Ruggeri and Amleto Novelli. Ruggeri, the central character of this smart story based on a comedy not yet published in Italy at the time, is a bon viveur father who wants to return to family life by reuniting with his estranged son. Novelli, slightly awkward in a role appropriate for someone ten years younger, is his simple and goodhearted son. Caught between not only two men, but two lifestyles, Menichelli rides around on a bicycle, wearing wild flowers, displaying a spontaneity that will surprise those who only know her more decadent performances. Every so often, however, a capricious look by Menichelli reveals the side of the actress that the public would come to associate with her.
