Peter the Great (1922) chronicles the life of Peter the Great, who, upon ascending to the throne of Russia, leverages his expertise in shipbuilding, acquired abroad, to build a formidable navy. To utilize this new naval power, he instigates a conflict with Sweden, culminating in a decisive victory at the Battle of Poltava. This pivotal battle not only transforms Peter's reign but also Russia's trajectory. During this tumultuous period, Peter's only son exhibits cowardice, leading Peter to encounter a refugee woman who eventually becomes his empress. His actions alienate both the church and many nobles, culminating in a conspiracy that, though suppressed, reveals the depth of his people's hatred. The tragic climax involves Peter's killing of his son, an act that hastens his own demise.
