Ryan's Daughter (1970) unfolds against the backdrop of the tumultuous Irish Rebellion of 1916. The narrative centers around Charles Shaughnessy, portrayed by Robert Mitchum, a compassionate and gentle widower who ties the knot with the significantly younger Rosy, played by Sarah Miles. However, Rosy's romantic aspirations are left unfulfilled on her wedding night. The arrival of a dashing young Major, who takes command of the British occupying forces, sparks an intense sexual attraction between him and Rosy. Despite the inherent risks, the two succumb to their desires and embark on a fervent affair. When a traitor exposes the Irish rebels to the British authorities, the entire town casts suspicion on Rosy.
