Crime series about a secret government department, "Room 17", set up to deal with crimes that baffle police and government agencies. Headed by veteran World War II Agent Oldenshaw (Richard Vernon), and partnered, initially, with criminologist Dimmock (Michael Aldridge), who was replaced by Imlac Defraits (Denholm Elliott) in season two, the two men solved all manner of crimes with one unique difference, they never leave the confines of their office, working out the problems of the case from "home".
