Gone Shopping (2007) is a satirical drama that delves into the impact of a nation's shopping obsession on the life of a single individual. Clara, a 40-year-old "tai tai" (a wealthy lady of leisure), finds herself in the midst of a midlife crisis and decides to escape to the one place that has always made sense to her—the shopping centers. As she settles into her new life, Clara encounters a diverse array of "creatures" of the mall, including Renu, an eight-year-old girl who has been left behind by her parents in a 24-hour mall, and Aaron, a disgruntled 23-year-old who skips work to spend time with his friends at the mall. Through their interactions, the film takes viewers on a journey of love, loss, and liberation, set against the backdrop of Singapore, where dreams can be both bought and shattered.
