The Criminal Code
1930 · Movie · 83 min. · United States
A young man's birthday celebration at a local speakeasy turns into a nightmare when he kills a man in self-defense! Bob Graham (Phillips Holmes), just twenty years old, is then railroaded into a harsh ten-year prison term by District Attorney Brady (Walter Huston). In an intriguing twist, Brady becomes prison warden years later and hires Bob as his chauffeur. Bob then meets and falls in love with Brady's daughter, Mary (Constance Cummings), who begs her father to pardon the convict. Bob's chances for freedom are threatened, however, when he refuses to identify an inmate who has murdered another. Thrown into solitary confinement, Bob is overcome with desperation as the promise of a new life and love beyond the prison walls begins to slip away!
