China Gate (1957) unfolds during the closing stages of the French involvement in the Vietnam War, where a band of mercenaries is assembled to navigate hostile terrain and reach the Chinese border. Their mission: to demolish a crucial arms depot. Enter Lucky Legs, a Eurasian smuggler, who agrees to leverage her extensive network to aid the group, with the condition that her illegitimate son be granted entry into the United States. Complicating matters is Sergeant Brock, the racist father of the boy, who is also part of the diverse mercenary team. Lucky Legs must navigate her feelings for Major Cham, a Eurasian guerrilla leader, to gain access to the heavily fortified base. The narrative builds towards a climactic question: will the team succeed in their mission, and will Brock confront his prejudices before Lucky Legs makes the ultimate sacrifice?
