The Sergeant (1968) delves into the tumultuous internal conflict of Master Sergeant Albert Callan, who grapples with his intense, repressed attraction to one of the soldiers under his command. Set in a rigid and oppressive post-World War II military base in France, Callan's hidden desires resurface when he meets the attractive Private Swanson.
