Snowy Road
2015 · Movie · 119 min. · South Korea
The protagonist Jong-bun is an elderly woman whose past as a ‘comfort woman’ for the Japanese army during World War II is being represented to the viewer via her encounter with a young girl who brings back her sufferings as a sex slave in the gruesome camps. Jong-bun, now in ther 80’s, sees a troubled teenager getting into trouble and kicked out of her apartment. From the very start she feels great empathy for the girl and offers for her to move into her little apartment. Through their conversations the past reemerges and starts blurring the the lines between historic and contemporary characters, between reality, emotions and distant memories, creating a powerful sense of personal stories of small people in the great whirlwind of history.
