A Woman Called Moses (TV)
1978 · Movie · 240 min. · United States
This television mini series stars Cicely Tyson, in one of her best performances, as Harriet Ross Tubman, the founder of the Underground Railroad, which provided a road to Northern freedom for hundreds of slaves. Orson Welles narrates her amazing story, as she not only helped slaves, but also the Union Army as a reconnaissance agent. No less active later in life, Tubman was also an instrumental figure within the women's suffrage movement with connections to many powerful political figures. However, she is most known for helping slaves escape their owners during the Civil War, a task she did so well that she became known as Moses to the thousands she freed.
