A young man (Sandrini) with natural talent and abilities is hired by a famous clown (Maurer) who has lost his inspiration to devise new acting routines and laughing material. A young admirer (Pastorino) falls in love with the clown's character and having met Sandrini behind the scenes he mistakenly thinks he is the clown.
