Kwystani Qsndil
2010 · Movie · 94 min. · Iraq
The borders of Iran, Turkey, and Iraq meet in the Qandil Mountains. For years, the soldiers of these three countries have been fighting Kurdish 'peshmergas' in a bloody conflict that has seen tens of thousands of people killed, thousands unaccounted for. On all sides, there is extreme bravery, desperation and fatalism. Both sides claim to have no choice but to be as ruthless and murderous as possible to deal with their enemy. Iranian director Taha Karimi sets his first, beautifully filmed, dramatic feature against the violent yet stunning backdrop of the Qandil mountains, casting veteran stage and screen actor Ghotbedin Sadeghi with a set of younger actors playing the sons and daughters of the conflict, attempting to draw on the common concerns that link Arabs with Kurds, Turkmen with Persians.
