7th Cavalry (1956) follows Captain Benson as he arrives back at Fort Lincoln and is met with the grim news of Custer's devastating loss at the Little Big Horn. During the subsequent inquiry, Custer's officers point fingers at their fallen leader, but Benson steps in to offer a defense. However, Benson's absence during the battle raises eyebrows and earns him the disdain of his fellow soldiers. When a directive to recover the fallen soldiers' remains from the battlefield surfaces, Benson steps forward to lead the perilous expedition back into hostile Indian territory.
