A touching portrait of modern life, whether showing the human dimension of large issues, or deftly detailing the intimate reverberations of a casual love affair. A successful writer-director rents an apartment in a drab modern building to escape the intrusions of family life while he works on his new script. His resolve quickly dissipates as he falls into an affair with a beautiful young woman, who gradually involves him in his neighbors'' struggle to win equitable treatment from their landlord.
