Journey of Hope (1990) follows a family from a small village in eastern Turkey, driven by stories of prosperity among Turks in Switzerland. Haydar, the father, persuades his wife Meryem to embark on this perilous journey, selling their livestock and land to secure passage for two. They decide to leave their seven children behind, with the eldest and their parents taking care of them. Haydar's father suggests taking one son along to ensure his education and future in Europe. The trio ventures to Istanbul, Milan, and ultimately Switzerland, hiding aboard a ship. At Lake Como, they pay their remaining funds to deceitful individuals who leave them stranded at an Alpine pass during a severe blizzard. Separated from Meryem, Haydar and his son face an uncertain fate as they strive to reach their promised land.
