The Great Kilapy is the story of a good Angolan trickster at the end of the colonial period (years 60s and 70s) loosely inspired by real events. Johnny, a con man with a deep ethic of friendship and a 'bon vivant' at all costs, is also a natural opponent for the authorities in a Portuguese colony because of his skin color and social prejudices. Under those circumstances, Johnny end up becoming a nuisance, subversive and political character for the Portuguese colonial regime.
