For the legendary Abu Ali al-Shahin, colonialism lives on Syria’s feudal land tenure system. Jailed, beaten and humiliated, the hero escapes to the hills and spearheads armed resistance against rural landowners and the soldiers who back them. The Leopard won The Locarno International Film Festival’s Special Leopard (25th Anniversary) Prize in 1972.
