Guillermo de la Mora, an old actor, is retiring from the stage. He tells the audience on his last performance that he loved theater more than anything and laments he gave up everything for the stage; no woman loved him for who he really is, only for the roles he played, and now he is a lonely old man. Guillermo, however, has had a long affair with Beatriz, an actress, who loves him but is now moving to Spain because he would never marry her.
