My parent’s bazaar
According to Indian family tradition, the first son is obliged to look after the business and his parents if any serious problem affects the family. My father came to Spain in the 1970s with the idea of starting his own business and he brought my mother and grandmother here. We have been here ever since. Rising rents in the old quarter of Malaga mean that Kirpa Bazaar, my parents’ bazaar, has had to close its doors after four decades of business. In the final days of the bazaar, which coincided with the Christmas holidays, I took the opportunity to be with them to find out more about their wishes and desires after that long journey. My Parents’ Bazaar is a documentary about identity, tradition and family – after all, a business may close but family is always there.
