Following his execution on August 5th 1993 in Huntsville, the body of Joseph Paul Jernigan is transferred to the University of Colorado Medical Center. Two years later science rejoices at the birth of the very first digitalised man. The "Visible Human Project" has been disseminated all over the world thanks to 800 licences, eventually arriving on the internet. The data fills 8.5 million book pages and is expected to serve as a basis for surgical simulations in the near future. This would be a surprise indeed to Joseph Paul Jernigan, who after a wait of 12 years on death row hoping for his sentence to be quashed on appeal, bequeathed his body to science. Doubtless he had little idea of what was in store for him at the hands of the state prosecutors, the various government authorities and the scientists.
