Breaking free is a powerful myth, but what if it's cosier to stay home? As a community, the family often works like a menagerie of cuddly animals that give each other warmth, a sense of safety and attention, but this type of unconditional love can also be suffocating and annoying. Quit Staring at my Plate is a dark comedy about a family that is oppressive and dysfunctional in the extreme. Marijana, the shy and timid daughter of the household, wants to break free from the prison of her family's all-consuming love. Freedom, however, is cold and desolate, and the people she encounters outside the family are indifferent and uncaring strangers. Is this really where she belongs - and does she really want to escape?
