Based on Franz Kafka’s unfinished first novel, AMERIKA, the story follows the bizarre wanderings of 17-year-old Karl Rossmann, a serious-minded German bourgeois, sent to America by his parents to avoid a family scandal. Already the victim of the authority of his parents and their notions of social propriety, Karl, with limited experience and an inconsequential résumé, has all sorts of class-based encounters in the allegedly classless society in the new land.
