Toronto, 1989. Leslie Boothe is a 30-something university professor who likes everything under control, from his academic lectures to his nerdy OCD-like tendencies. Enter Reuben Goldstein: his former best friend whom he hasn’t seen for ages. Reuben is sharply dressed, sports a flattop hairstyle, and works as a jazz musician. In their school years, they were crazy party animals—to the point of gross excess. So much so, that Leslie had to distance himself from Reuben to avoid flunking. Now, five years later, Reuben reemerges, informing Leslie that his younger brother Solomon has gone missing while working for the nefarious drug lord Feng, dealer of Pearl (a deadly new drug that induces out of body experiences) and king of the underworld. Needing his help, Reuben reminds Leslie that he is indebted to him for a promise made years prior. Leslie, very hesitantly, agrees to help him. Now, the two have to work together like old times to infiltrate Feng’s mysterious operation and get Sol back.
