This is a story of the Del Junco family, ruled by Rafael, a powerful and despotic man; his wife Clemencia, who tries to escape from reality with the help of drugs; and their daughters Maria Elena and Matilde, victims of the oppression of their father, who is a pillar of the society in public, but in his private life reveals his low instincts. Maria Elena was seduced by Alfredo Martinez, an addicted gambler who ran away from the city to avoid paying his gambling debts, leaving the girl pregnant. When Don Rafael finds out about her pregnancy, he wants her to do abortion, but it's too late, so he sends her to his manor, so that the baby is born over there. Not waiting for his daughter's refuse to give the boy for adoption, he orders the foreman to kill a newborn. Maria Dolores, the faithful nana of Maria Elena, saves the baby and runs away with him to Mexico City. Don Rafael thinks that the boy is dead, while Maria Elena dedicates her body and soul to look for her son with the help of Aldo Drigani, whom she will marry later, after he saves her from several conflicting situations. With many sacrifices, but with a great mother's love, Maria Dolores raises the little Alberto and he grows up into a good man. He becomes an excellent medical doctor and soon he will be transferred to Merida, where he will face a past he never thought of, and a future that he never looked for.
