In 2007, the bell of the church of Gésu rang out for the last time in the rue Royale in Brussels. A Swiss investment company had bought the building to turn it into a five-star hotel. Some time afterwards, in 2010, the cloister was transformed into a residence where 150 people squatted – homeless, undocumented workers, artists, and activists all among them. Seventy children also lived with them.
