Doctor Who: The Monster of Peladon (TV) (1974) sees the Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith landing on the planet Peladon half a century after the Doctor's previous adventure there. Under the governance of Queen Thalira, who succeeded her late father, King Peladon, and guided by Chancellor Ortron, the planet faces a new threat. The Doctor and Sarah are initially detained for trespassing on hallowed ground, but their reputations are vindicated by Alpha Centauri, the Galactic Federation's ambassador to Peladon. Mysterious, ghostly apparitions of Aggedor, the planet's mythical beast, have been causing chaos and fatalities in the trisilicate mines, stirring discontent among the miners. The Doctor uncovers the truth behind these spectral sightings: they are the work of a human engineer, Eckersley, who is collaborating with a band of rogue Martian warriors, led by Commander Azaxyr. Their scheme aims to commandeer the valuable trisilicate deposits for Galaxy 5, a rival power bloc engaged in conflict with the Federation.
