Ismael, el último guardián

Ismael Diadie Haidara fled into exile from Timbuktu (Mali) to Granada (Spain) escaping from death. In April, 2012, Salafists surrounded his house with the intention of destroying the Fondo Kati, a legacy of more than 12,000 manuscripts created by the Kati family and reunited by its last guardian, Ismael. Pushed by the war, Ismael retrac ed the path taken by Alí Ben Ziyad Al Qutí 5 centuries earlier when he fled fanatics in Toledo in 1486, taking the 400 initial manuscripts of the archive with him when he left in search of a peaceful home in Mali. On his way to Granada, Ismael managed to scatter and protect thousands of manuscripts hidden in the attics of relatives.
