Moktar lives in Africa with his mother, Saffi. He has never left the village. His father, who left for France a long time ago, finally sends for them. The boy leaves behind his village, his friends and his sick grandfather and enters a strange and hostile world. It is hard for him to adapt, he often has nightmares in which a hyena, the symbol of death, appears. Luckily, he meets Paulo, an outcast who helps him to accept the changes and to control his fears.
