Prima Donnas (1995) centers around Kim, a young woman whose mother is deeply invested in the idea of her daughter becoming a debutante. The mother's relentless focus on this societal milestone causes significant tension between them. Kim, feeling stifled and annoyed by her mother's insistence, rebels against her plans. She rejects the mother's choice of a suitor, Scott, a senator's son, whom she finds arrogant. Instead, Kim decides to date a man she barely knows, who happens to be Latino, much to her mother's dismay. The mother and Scott then resort to various tactics to thwart Kim's decision, viewing it as a potential social disaster.
