Through her own words and those who knew her, this documentary reviews the enigmatic life of legendary French designer Coco Chanel. This is the definitive portrait of Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel, the early influencer whose iconic designs (the black dress, tweed suit and Chanel No. 5 perfume) remain symbols of luxury, style, sexuality and female empowerment in the 21st century. In a male-dominated world, she gave women freedom, but the designer's life remains a mystery: a childhood marked by poverty, a wartime romance, or accusations of collaboration with the Nazis. Featuring actress Sophie Marceau as the voice of Coco Chanel, the documentary features testimony from people who knew her well, including her model and muse Jackie Rogers and her longtime assistant, Lilou Grumbach Marquand. Also featured are the designer's biographers Justine Picardie and Rhonda Garelick; Valerie Steele, director of the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum; Misa Hylton stylist and designer; Judith Thurman, contributor to The New Yorker; Oriole Cullen, senior curator at the V&A Museum; Jerry Hall, former model and Chanel fan, with her daughter Georgia May Jagger. In addition, the documentary has gained exclusive access to the archives of the House of Chanel.
